Our Orgins
The Caribbean Poultry Association (CPA) was born out of a pivotal gathering of regional poultry leaders at the International Production and Processing Exposition (IPPE)in Atlanta in January 1999.
The meeting was convened to address shared industry challenges - notably increasing extra-regional imports - and to explore opportunities for collective regional action.
Mr. Bruce Hanson of Gladstone Farms Ltd., The Bahamas, and Robert Levy of Jamaica Broilers Group Ltd., Jamaica, played key roles in bringing stakeholders together.
Early Contributors
The CPA was founded by a core group of industry leaders representing poultry production, feed manufacturing, and national associations across the Caribbean. Those instrumental in shaping the Association’s establishment and early mandate included:
Governance and Initial Mandate
The CPA was registered as a notforprofit organisation in Jamaica in 2000 and formally established in 2001. Its governance is guided by its Articles of Incorporation and Memorandum of Association.
Registered Office: c/o Jamaica Broilers, Content, McCook Pen, St. Catherine, Jamaica.
From its inception, the CPA aimed to serve as the voice of the poultry industry in the Caribbean and to specifically:
- Represent the interests of the regional poultry and feed industries
- Promote growth, development, and expansion of the industry in the CARICOM community
- Strengthen economic linkages and agribusiness opportunities
- Provide technical support, business guidance, and industry networking
- Foster strategic alliances and collaboration across the region.
Membership was designed to include national poultry associations, poultry and egg farmers, processors, feed manufacturers, and other key stakeholders.
Growth and Industry Leadership
Since its formation, the CPA has built a strong reputation as a leading private sector association and advocacy body for the Caribbean poultry and feed industries.
What began as a small group of regional producers has grown into a diverse network of national associations, large scale producers, feed manufacturers, and allied stakeholders.
Today, the CPA continues to champion industry development, policy engagement, and regional food security.
Board of Directors
The CPA is governed by a Board of Directors, led by the President (Chairman of the Board), with leadership drawn from across the Caribbean.
